A Mother’s Nightmare… Martin Dunn Op-Ed Questions Tiffany Valiente Death Investigation

investigation

Guest columnist and former New York Daily News Editor-in-Chief Martin Dunn raises additional questions about the death of a Mays Landing teenager in a recent NJ.com op-ed, Unanswered Questions from N.J. Transit – and a Mother’s Nightmare.

Tiffany Valiente, 18, was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit Atlantic City Rail Line train four miles from her home on July 12, 2015. Authorities ruled her death a suicide, but the family – along with Dunn and many others – disagree, claiming no real investigation ever took place.

The NJ Transit Police, overseeing the investigation, made the suicide determination within hours of Tiffany’s death. Despite being found without her shorts, no sexual assault or DNA testing was conducted. Her clothing and shoes were discovered weeks later, over a mile from the scene. Investigators did not perform a full autopsy, conduct interviews, establish a psychological profile, nor analyze her cell phone and social media for activity and movements prior to her death.

Paul R. D’Amato, Esq. and the family have been lobbying for over a decade to reopen the case for further investigation.
