Alexa D'Amato Barrera
Alexa D’Amato Barrera is a partner at the D’Amato Law Firm where she has been representing victims of negligence from things like car, motorcycle and bus crashes, construction matters, fall downs, dog bites, and the like, in addition to representing families for Special Education matters. Alexa is a proud 1994 graduate of Mainland Regional High School. She received her BA from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in 1998 and her Juris Doctorate from the Rutgers School of Law in 2001. She became barred in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and accepted a position as Assistant Counsel of the County of Atlantic before joining the D’Amato Law Firm in Egg Harbor Township where she practices plaintiffs’ personal injury law, representing those that have been injured in serious accidents. Alexa is actively involved nationally with the American Association for Justice (AAJ), where she is Past Chair of their New Lawyers Division, which had over 4,000 New Lawyer Members at the time. She is also actively involved with the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJAJ) where she is on their Board of Governors and program chair for various seminars. Alexa was a Trustee of the Atlantic County Bar Association for 4 years and Chaired their New Lawyers Division from 2004-2007.

In 2012, Alexa was selected to the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 and in 2007 she received the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award. Alexa has been recognized as a top young lawyer by New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2008 thru 2012. Only up to 2.5% of the attorneys in the state are named Rising Stars. Since 2013 she has been named as a New Jersey Super Lawyer. Locally, she was recognized as one of the Top 40 Under 40 in Atlantic County when she was under 30 years old and also received the Atlantic County Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award.

Alexa has been a speaker and moderator on numerous occasions locally for NJAJ and on the national level for AAJ. Her writings have been published by the New Jersey State Bar Association, NJESQ Magazine and the American Associate for Justice. She is also a proud member of the Melvin Belli Society.

Nationally, Alexa has worked with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans and Chicago and the Downtown Miami Beautification Project. Locally, Alexa was on the Advisory Board of the Atlantic County Women’s Center, which benefits abused and battered women and children, was a Steering Committee Member of Shore Medical Center Health Foundation Leaders Alliance since inception in 2007, is on the Board of Directors of the Ensign John R. Elliott Foundation and a member of Rotary International’s Somers Point Chapter.

Alexa lives in Linwood with her husband, Alexander J. Barrera, Esquire, their three children, Paul (8), Massimo (7) and Rocco (5), their Goldendoodle Emme, and their two cats, Mickey and Minnie, a fish named Chocolate Fish an the snail, Gary.

    • On April, 2014, March 9, 2012, February 26, 2010 and February 25, 2006 I performed in a benefit performance of the Vagina Monologues for V-Day, which is an organized response against violence towards women, with all proceeds raised from the events benefiting the Atlantic County Women’s Center in Northfield, New Jersey.
  • As Chair of the ATLA NLD Special Projects Committee, I worked with the People Over Profits Organization to protect American civil rights and trial by jury.
  • On July 13, 2007 I helped build a Habitat for Humanity house in Chicago with other members of the AAJ’s New Lawyers Division.
  • On May 2, 2007 I helped build a house in Musician’s Village in New Orleans for Habitat for Humanity with other members of the AAJ’s New Lawyers Division.
  • On February 9, 2007, I and other members of AAJ’s New Lawyers Division worked on a downtown Miami Public Service/Beautification project.
  •  My sister, Ava D’Amato Cocchi, and I raised nearly $6,000 holding a December 6, 2003 walk-athon for the Atlantic County Women’s Center.
